SoHo |
So many things to see, too little times. However, depending on your interests and traveling style, you could get the best of NYC in three days.
7 Days Unlimited Pass |
Cull & Pistol at Chelsea Market |
Central Park |
Top of The Rock |
TIP #1 GET THE APPS !
Tripomatic application would help you find popular spots in the city. Although, not all places suggested on the app is worth visiting. Especially, when you are on a budget plan and have minimum time. For example, the Statue of Liberty, not only costly but time consuming. The best thing to do is catch a free boat ride from Battery Park. It will take you around the island and a better picture of the Statue. The app doesn't cost a penny, you only need a google email address to sign in. Another must have free application is HopStop; It is a perfect guide for subway and bus transportation.
TIP #2 SKIP HOTEL, GET AIRBNB
Yes, there are plenty budget hotels in the area, but you pretty much get what you pay for. AirBnB is a new method of budget stay that offer better bargain. If you looked right, you won a great bargain over NYC's high cost. Link here: https://www.airbnb.com
TIP #3 SKIP TAXI, RIDE SUBWAY
Nothing's better than subway to take you around town. It is inexpensive and it'll get you there faster. The 7 days Metro unlimited pass is the best one to get, in my opinion. You don't have to worry to add on more money once it runs out. It is a good $32 investment. Note: Taxis offer $50 flat rate from JFK airport to anywhere in Manhattan area.
TIP #4 YELP IS YOUR BEST FRIEND
You don't have to worry when it comes to food. There are plenty inexpensive and best quality eating spots in NYC. One of my top favourite is The Halal Guys' food truck, a must to try. $7 per dish and the size of it could either be saved for later or shared it with someone. And if you don't mind the extra walk, check out Prosperity Dumpling located in Chinatown. They have the best and most inexpensive dumplings I know. A dollar for 4 big pieces and they are delicious, yes I'm not kidding!. I would go back just for it.
TIP #5 GET THE RIGHT SHOES
Be sure the shoes you plan to wear is meant for walking. Like most other travel situation, this trip requires miles long of walking.
Notes: 1. Skip Empire State building, go to Top of the Rock instead. It has better sighted and better building, interior as well as exterior. Great for taking pictures. 2. Get Times Square at the bottom of your list. It is not as fun as it may seem. Over crowded; It can be quite overwhelming.
Have a wonderful trip !
