I am a sucker for online recipes. I could stay for a good one hour browsing online, without feeling weary. While searching, I like to focus on recipes that are simple, quick, and with ingredients that are replaceable. Today's post is dedicated to food bloggers/YouTubers/Writers as my thank you, for bringing a little joy into my home through their awesome recipes. There are so many great online recipes that I found, but today I'd like to share these three.
Generally, it is better to follow the instructions exactly during the first try, so you get to try the creator's palette. Then later you can tweak it according to your liking. Just keep mind that I've done a little tweaking on this recipes, therefore I'm going to list the ingredients I used down below and attach a link to the original recipes.

3. Sweet & Spicy Tofu ( Tahu Pedas Manis)
With exception of things I mentioned earlier, this one has more ingredients than others. However, if you are a fan of Southeast Asia culinary such as I, you will find that this is relatively easy. Unfortunately, the original recipe of this dish is written in Bahasa (Indonesian). However, the translation will be written below, along with side notes for changes I did.
Ingredients:
- 5 pieces of large tofu ( I used instant fried tofu. It can be found in any Asian's market)
- 100 ml water
- Cooking oil
Seasoning:
- 5 shallots
- 4 cloves garlic
- 4 red chillies (I skipped this. Instead I used "Sambal Oelek". )
- 10 Thai chillies (I skipped this. Too spicy for me)
- 5 candlenuts (fried)
- 3 cm galangal (crushed)
- 2 bay leafs
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp chicken bouillon powder
- 1/2 tsp white pepper
- 1 tbs sugar
- 1 tsp palm sugar
- 2 tbs sweet soy sauce
- 2 tbs chilli sauce (I used Sriracha)
How to make:
- Wash and clean tofu, then cut according to taste
- Fry tofu in a heated cooking oil until crispy, then set a side
- In a blender, puree shallots, garlic, chilies and candlenuts
- Heat up 3 tbs cooking oil and add pureed ingredients, galangal and bay leafs until fragrant and cooked through
- Add water and cook until boiled
- Add salt, chicken bouillon, white pepper, sugar, palm sugar, sweet soy sauce and chili sauce. Mix well
- Add tofu. Stir well
- Cook until the seasoning diffused well into tofu and the sauce thickens
- Ready to serve
